Unicode defines this enclosed style for uppercase letters only. Lowercase input is converted to its uppercase form first, so the original letter case cannot be recovered by the plain-text converter.

Limitations and compatibility
- Outline circled letters exist for both uppercase and lowercase, and for digits 0-9 (digit 0 uses a different code point than 1-9, but is included automatically).
- Filled 'negative' circled letters exist only as uppercase in Unicode — there is no separate lowercase glyph. Lowercase input is converted to its uppercase circled form, so the plain-text converter can undo the circling but can't recover which letters were originally lowercase.
- Circle rendering (thickness, exact size) varies noticeably by font and platform; some apps fall back to showing the plain letter with no visible circle at all. See our bubble-text numbers-and-case guide for a worked example.
Questions
Why don't lowercase filled bubble letters exist?
Unicode simply never assigned lowercase code points for the 'negative circled' block — it's a chart gap, not a rendering bug.
Which one should I use for a username or bio?
Outline circled if you want your exact capitalization preserved; filled/negative circled if you specifically want the bold, high-contrast filled-circle look and don't mind everything appearing as capitals.
Do numbers above 9 work?
Each digit is styled individually — so '42' becomes two separate circled digits side by side, not a single circled '42'. There's no single circled character for multi-digit numbers in Unicode.
