Questions
Why can't I get subscript capital letters?
Unicode never defined them — there is no code point for an uppercase subscript letter in any block, for any letter.
Which one looks most like a real small caps font?
Small caps is the closest match to what a typographer would call small capitals — a uniform, formal look at roughly lowercase height. Superscript and subscript sit above or below the baseline instead, which reads as a footnote or exponent, not a general small-text style.
Can I use these for stylized ordinals, like a small '2nd'?
Superscript digits (all 10 are supported) work well for this; just note that superscript letters have gaps in uppercase coverage if you're styling an abbreviation alongside the number.
